I believe that each and every child is unique and needs a secure,
caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which they can grow and mature
emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. I want to help children
reach their fullest potential in all of these areas by providing a safe
environment that supports risk-taking, and allows sharing of ideas. I believe in
three key elements to provide such an environment; acting as a guide for the
children, allow children to learn through their own curiosity, and promoting
respect for all things and people.
When the teacher’s role is to guide they are able to show children
where they can find the answer rather than acting as the primary source of
information. Children’s search for answers is met as they learn to find them on
their own. Children need to be able to discover things on their own and practice
what they learn in their own situations. Providing children with the right
materials and activities, along with proper time and space, allow them to
discover and learn on their own levels.
Equally important to self-discovery is having the opportunity to
study things that are in relation to one’s life and interests. Being able to
develop a curriculum that surrounds children’s interest to motivate and
stimulate their passion to learn. Having the children help guide with lessons
and studies thereof, gives them the opportunity for their input, goals, ideas
and activities which makes for a richer learning environment than I could have
created or imagined for myself. When children have their own leadership in the
curriculum they are more motivated to reach their own personal goals.
By sharing ideas and a sensible approach to discipline children are
able to develop a love a respect for themselves, others and their environment.
Each child needs to be heard and when they are the environment evolves and
students feel free to express themselves. I believe that children have a greater
respect for their teachers, peers, and lessons presented when they feel safe and
sure of what is expected of them.
For me, teaching provides an opportunity of continual learning and
growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to inspire a love of learning in my
children, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel that there is
a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited
about working with children. It is important for children to not only receive a
solid education, but to also work with someone that is aware and sensitive to
their individual needs. I am that person. I will always strive to be the best
educator that I can be.
