This picture was taken October of 2012. In this picture the children are working on their fine motor skills by cutting on the lines of the "my plate" lesson plan. This is important because it shows you can work on fine motor skills like cutting, with the curriculum. It's very important to interpret all types of learning into the lesson plan no matter how important or unimportant you think they are.
This picture was taken March of 2013. This is after we read the book, Mouse Paint. I gave the children three primary colors; red, blue and yellow, to see what other colors they can make by mixing them together to create their own colors. This is important because it shows us that you can incorporate the book you read to the children, into their own art project. I am able to stay on topic with the book as they are learning about mixing different colors together and what colors they then turn into.
This picture was taken March of 2012. We are making our own marshmallows for camping week! We were all taking turns putting together the s'more. This is important because it shows that we can all work together and create something one step at a time. This applies to my knowledge because all children enjoy projects that involves food, for them to be a part of making it is even better!
This picture was taken March of 2012. We are "roasting" our own marshmallows around the "campfire". I added this picture as it shows we can turn anywhere we go into whatever we want. We made our own campfire with toilet paper rolls, construction paper, tissue paper, and flashlights. The children really enjoyed doing this activity, and it felt like we were singing songs, outside around a campfire. I feel that this represents that I can be one of the children. I can relate to them and do activities that they are all going to enjoy. Thinking outside the box is a very important concept when working in childcare.
This picture was taken July of 2012. We made our own binoculars and then went out looking for things in nature. Children become very fascinated with bugs, or birds so we decided to see what we could find on our walk when we were actually looking for them. This represents that I not only can teach in a classroom setting but teach while taking the children out of their classroom environment into the every day world. Education is all around us, children just need the guidance to see it.
This picture was taken April of 2013. We read the book Freight Train and then made our own pattern train afterwards. We had three different colored box cars where the children needed to put them in a pattern. This shows that I can have fun and teach basics at the same time. Learning about patterns is very important and for the children to try to do it on their own through trial and error is very important in early childhood.
This is drawn December 2012. I like to make sure the children aren't always told what to draw. I give them paper, and I like for them to draw me whatever is on their mind. It's not about product art it's about the children being able to draw what they like and create their own stories.
The children did a cutting sample every quarter to see how they were improving on their cutting skills. This is a great way to see the progress children make throughout the year.
This picture was taken June 0f 2013. This was for one of my activities with science. The children were learning about gardening so we planted our own watermelon and pumpkin seeds. The children did everything on their own with little guidance. I was able to tell ask them what plants need to grow and they were able to tell me and do the rest on their own! This shows that I am very hands on when it comes to learning. I would rather have the children experience the discussion rather than just talking about it.
